Famitsu has released its latest charts for hardware sales and physical software sales in Japan, and where the latter is concerned, there are several new releases in the top 10 for the week. Super Mario RPG enjoyed the second-biggest ever launch for a Mario RPG, selling over 301,000 physical units upon release. The original title, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, remains the best launch for a Mario RPG to date though, having sold over 335,000 units upon its SNES launch in 1996 (via Install Base).
Super Mario RPG is not, however, the best-selling game of the week. It occupies the No. 2 spot, with Konami’s party game Momotaro Dentetsu World: Chikyuu wa Kibou de Mawatteru! taking the top spot with over 314,000 units sold.
Persona 5 Tactica, another new release, occupies the fifth and sixth place slots, posting collecting sales of over of over 42,000 units upon release, with its Switch version selling over 26,000 units and coming in at No. 5, and its PS5 version selling over 15,000 units and taking the No. 6 spot. Meanwhile, Hogwarts Legacy also saw its Nintendo Switch release last week, and the new version of the open world RPG debuted in fourth place, selling over 47,000 units.
On the hardware front, the PS5 is once again the best-selling console, as it was last week, though by a much smaller margin. It sold over 65,000 units over the course of the week, with the Nintendo Switch following close behind with over 62,000 units sold.
