The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now less than a month away from its premiere. This is why Nintendo released its final trailer during a special Mario Day Direct presentation centered around a film that continues to show a lot of promise for fans.
Although it’s not the next Mario entry Nintendo Switch owners have been waiting for since Super Mario Odyssey, Illumination's animated feature has won a lot of goodwill thanks to how good the Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants look in every preview, and this teaser is no exception. Excitement for this new Super Mario Bros. movie is proving to be contagious. Even TV's hottest star, Pedro Pascal, could not resist taking on Mario when he hosted Saturday Night Live last month.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Datamine May Hint at New DLC Characters
Like all the past Super Mario Bros. Movie trailers, this one doesn’t go light on comedy, yet having a Luma start with a very dark monologue is something that neither Luigi nor the Penguin King could have seen coming. One thing present here is a proper 2D platforming section involving Mario and Donkey Kong, with both getting authentic Mario power-ups. However, the scene that will steal the spotlight is this new look at Rainbow Road, where Mario can be seen channelling his inner Dominic Toretto.
There are plenty of Mario easter eggs to be found here, including one ofSuper Mario 64's most memorable melodies, though the novelty of a fire DK is hard to beat. The entire main voice cast showed up during the presentation, and so did directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. However, as usual, no game announcements were made, thus quelling any rumors that pointed to a new Mario title possibly being planned to go alongside the plumber’s return to the cinema.
