The recently released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has seemingly not done well enough to keep Warner Bros happy.
Speaking to investors, Warner Bros Discovery's CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said that the title had "fallen short of our expectations". The company did not say how many copies it had sold – or how much money it had made. However, the exec did say that Suicide Squad's less-than-stellar performance was a poor start for its games business this year, especially in comparison to 2023.
In the first quarter of last year, the company released Harry Potter title Hogwarts Legacy which apparently performed best in the first three months of 2023. The game has shifted over 24 million units to date.
"We are lapping the release of Hogwarts Legacy in February last year, which saw the largest portion of its very positive financial impact in the first quarter," Wiedenfels told investors.
"This year, Suicide Squad, one of our key video game releases in 2024, has fallen short of our expectations since its release earlier in the quarter, setting our games business up for a tough year-over-year comp in Q1."
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launched on January 30th to middling reviews.
