It’s not every day that you get to see fan-made characters take the spotlight in games. But Subway Surfers is flipping the script on that one. A student from Arts University Bournemouth has clinched victory in a competition to create a new character for the game. Yep, Subway Surfers’ new character Hammy-Bee is cute, nerdy and all things awesome!
Subway Surfers’ new character Hammy-Bee is a character that draws inspiration from the ‘gaming geek’ culture. She sports a VR headset, comfortable sweatpants and quirky burger-shaped slippers. You’ll get to play as this character starting from Monday, May 13th. It’s pretty timely given that it’s the game’s 12th anniversary.
Now that you got the intro of Hammy-Bee, let’s tell you how she came into being. Subway Surfers invited their audience to participate in the ‘Craft-A-Character’ contest. With a community size of 150 million monthly players, they received over 800 entries.
The winner was Sarah Bucksey, who managed to stand out amongst the fierce competition with Hammy-Bee. Sarah, who digs the game herself, reckoned it was the perfect time to take part. Her design draws inspiration from her university pals on campus, dynamic styles and laid-back attire.
A final-year student pursuing a BA (Hons) in Animation Production at AUB, Sarah is definitely mastering the art of illustrating. The proof is her creation, Subway Surfers’ new character Hammy-Bee. Fans have already shown their love and enthusiasm for Hammy-Bee, making and sharing fan art.
Sarah’s winning streak shows that with a bit of creativity and a dash of gaming passion, you can end up designing the next character that millions will be playing around the world. If you haven’t checked out how Hammy looks, grab the game from the Google Play Store and give it a try!
