Netflix's Stranger Things returned for its fourth season on May 27, and it broke records. Netflix announced today that the Season 4 debut was the «biggest premiere weekend» in Netflix's history for an English language TV show.
So far, Stranger Things Season 4 racked up 286.79 million hours viewed worldwide. What's more, Netflix said the show jumped to No. 1 in 83 countries, which is also a record for a Netflix series.
The previous record for an English language series on Netflix was held by Bridgerton Season 2, according to Variety. Seven episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 debuted May 27, with the remainder of the super-sized episodes scheduled to arrive in July. A fifth and final season will follow sometime later.
Stranger Things 4 has been running up that hill since Friday, becoming the biggest premiere weekend ever for an English language TV show on Netflix with 286.79 million hours viewed globally! Netflix now measures viewership by total hours watched, which wasn't the way the company did it when Stranger Things Season 3 debuted. As such, comparisons to previous seasons of Stranger Things would not be fair or complete.
Stranger Things Season 4 premiered just a few days after the Uvalde shooting. Netflix added a content warning to the show regarding violence involving children in response to this.
