The Starfield (pre)launch has significantly boosted Xbox Series X|S sales in the UK, based on Gfk data.
As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the launch of Starfield in early access as well as the new Xbox Series S black model results in a jump in Xbox Series sales with sales jumping 72% week-on-week. Out of all Series X|S consoles sold in the UK during Starfield's early-access launch week (September 1st), 24% of those were the new Series S black 1TB model. This new model launches on September 1 alongside the early-access launch of Starfield. The majority of the jump in Xbox Series hardware, however, is due to the launch of Starfield through early access - those who bought the game's Premium Edition or Constellation Edition were given access to the game on September 1. According to Gfk's Dorian Bloch, the week ending September 2nd was the biggest this year for Xbox Series hardware sales in the UK. "It is currently the best week this year for Series X," Bloch said. "And the following week [ending September 9th] is the fourth best for X. In-between is week one and week six, which were early-year blips."
On Twitter, GamesIndustry's Christopher Dring writes: "During the first week that Starfield was available, which was also the launch week of the new Xbox Series S 1TB model, Xbox console sales jumped 76% in the UK (GfK data)".
As covered earlier this week, Starfield topped the UK retail charts, potentially being the biggest launch of 2023 so far. As also reported earlier, the game's early-access edition already resulted in more than 2 million players ahead of the game's global launch on September 6. As covered yesterday, Xbox Series X|S sales in the UK decreased 23% year-to-date.
