IGN recently published a ten minute preview of Star Wars Outlaws and the reaction has been rather negative. Comments about frame rate drops, low quality explosions and the graphics of the game have all been posted. While it does look good in certain places there are other areas where it clearly needs a bit of polish, check the sequence around 5m50s where Kay Vess walks through a puddle, those are some PS2 era ripples in the water.
The reactions have led to a Bank of America analyst discussing the game in an earnings call and asking Ubisoft if it would be delayed.
“The game has gone gold, so the date is well confirmed for August 30,” Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet commented. “We’ll shortly be seeing more content of very high quality and multiple hours that will really show the depths of the open world that is a key element of the promise to enjoy the exploration of the galaxy with multiple planets, so that should bode well for the game in terms of high-quality delivery.”
“As we’ve said also for Star Wars, the level of quality of the world and the experience is really very high,” adds Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. “We are really leveraging our engine, and I think people will love it.”
Set between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, you’ll play as outlaw Kay Vess who’s trying to pull off one of the biggest heists ever in the Outer Rim. That journey will take you across several planets that obviously includes Tatooine, but also has less familiar settings and brand new ones, like the moon of Toshara.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will you be buying the game?
