Cal Kestis' canonical lightsaber has been confirmed in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's latest trailer, and it's still blue, which feels like just another symptom of Disney's blue lightsaber problem. Despite many other lightsaber colors being canon in Disney's Star Wars universe, they still continue to keep using blue, which can be fairly annoying for fans who wish to see the other colors in action. From Leia to Rebel's Kanan Jarrus, most of the newer Jedi in the Star Wars universe have wielded the iconic blue saber, and Jedi: Fallen Order's Cal is no exception. Although Fallen Order's sequel should change Cal's lightsaber color, it seems like the blue trend will continue.
There are many reasons not only as to why Cal's saber color should be changed, but also why Disney should add more variety to their Jedi's lightsaber colors. Lightsabers are one of the most iconic weapons in fiction, a blade of light used by only the most skillful wielders from a more civilized age. While most of the villains in the Star Wars saga fight with the usual red-colored sabers, the Jedi and protagonists tend to wield sabers with other colors around the spectrum. From blue to orange, there are many Jedi, both canon and in Star Wars Legends, who wield many sabers of different colors. Despite this, however, Disney still seems keen on having far too many blue-colored lightsabers.
