Workers at Polish games maker CD Projekt are in the process of forming a union.
In a post on its website, the Polish Gamedev Workers Union – part of the existing OZZ Inicjatywa Pracownicza (Polish Trade Union Workers Initiative) – is being created to ensure that all the workers in the country's games industry have a voice.
The organisation isn't limited to development staff either; marketing, publishing and ops workers are also eligible to be part of the union.
Polish Gamedev Workers Union started after discussions in the wake of CD Projekt laying off roughly nine per cent of its Red studio.
"This has resulted in enormous levels of stress and uncertainty, affecting employees' mental health and well-being," Polish Game Dev Workers Union wrote on its website.
"The trade union was established in response to this wave of layoffs. The presence of a union provides better protection, greater transparency of procedures and stronger employee representation.
"We believe that mass layoffs are a threat to the industry and that unionisation is the way to counter them."
This comes in the wake of a wave of layoffs, including at CD Projekt, Epic Games and Creative Assembly.
