The isn’t as straightforward as it might appear, considering that the film ends with a cliffhanger. Here’s a guide to explaining what’s happening and why. Beware the spoilers.
After Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) tells him that he’s the original anomaly that caused the Multiverse mess, Miles (Shameik Moore) makes his way to a machine that returns everyone back to their own universe based on their DNA.
Since Miles acquired his powers through the bite of a spider from Earth 42, the machine sends him to that universe. Miles realizes he’s not at home when he sees his uncle Aaron alive. The shock is even greater when Miles meets his own variant. On Earth 42, Miles’ life took a different turn when his father was killed, leading the young man to become Prowler. The two Miles face each other for a while, with the story teasing Earth-42 Miles has some bad intentions for his other self.
After a harsh confrontation with the Spider-Society leader about how Miguel treated Miles, Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) got back to her universe. She then made peace with her father, who seemed to have had a change of heart about arresting his daughter, even though it cost him to leave the police department. Thanks to the teleport that Spider-Punk gave her, Gwen traveled to Miles’ universe, where she understood her friend never returned home. Ultimately, she recruited Peter B. Parker, Spider Noir, Peni Parker, Spider-Ham, Pavitr Prabhakar, Hobie, and Spyder-Byte to search for Miles.
Fans will have to wait for March 29, 2024, to see what happens next in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
