Much has been made of the gameplay reveal for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which debuted during the PlayStation Showcase last week. The video, which runs just over ten minutes, features cutscenes, combat, and back-to-back set pieces in what is a breathless first look at how the PS5 exclusive will actually play.
The trailer racked up some serious numbers, topping 20 million views across multiple official YouTube channels. Although we have seen criticisms dotted about the internet — claims of it not looking current-gen enough, for example — the general consensus seems to be that it was an impressive showing.
And that's just a tiny glimpse of what Spider-Man 2 has to offer, says Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal. In a brief red carpet interview with IGN, the veteran video game performer commented: «You saw the gameplay drop, some of you said 'ah, they showed too much!'. I assure you, you have seen nothing yet [...] we've just scratched the surface.»
We're certainly inclined to believe Lowenthal on this one. After all, what kind of action game would reveal its hand in its first real gameplay trailer? We've seen Sony employ this tactic many times before, specifically with the Uncharted games. At events like E3, it would focus on one big, jaw-dropping set piece — only for the full release to boast many more.
We can't wait to see what kind of highs Marvel's Spider-Man 2 can hit. Are you looking forward to the return of Peter Parker and Miles Morales? Begin the hunt in the comments section below.
