There were many things about Super Smash Bros. Melee that would make you want to chuck your controller at a wall back in the day. Losing a sudden death, the opponent winning by one stock, not being able to open a single Poke Ball in a match, etc. But nothing came close to the frustration of the break the targets minigame.
This notoriously tricky minigame was no challenge for speedrunner Scott Rogoff, however. Rogoff has just shared footage of his own attempt, in which he breaks all the targets in Falco's stage in just 4.92 seconds. This has earned him the world record - having beaten the last entry by just one millisecond.

To beat break the targets, you have to make several jumps that are easy to mess up. If you do make a mistake, it's likely that you're doing to be falling to your death. It's a punishing minigame, for sure, but Rogoff has mastered it so well that it looks easy. It's actually hard to see where any more time could be saved, as every step looks perfectly optimized.
In case you're wondering how much Melee you have to play to reach this level, Rogoff shared on Reddit that he's reached 107,944 attempts with Falco in the past year. Keep in mind, there are a ton of other characters with their own unique stages, so this doesn't even come close to telling us how many times Rogoff and other Melee speedrunners have played this minigame.
Believe it or not, this isn't even the fastest break the targets time Rogoff has achieved. Last year, Luigi's stage was beaten in just 3.20 seconds, likely much faster than the devs could have ever imagined. The fastest time on Rogoff's YouTube channel, however, is Mr. Game & Watch's
