Sons of the Forest, the follow-up to the 2018 horror title The Forest, has been enjoying a position at the top spot on Steam, but that time has now ended as something else takes the lead. It seems the era of brutal open-world survival games is still in vogue, with plenty of releases to choose from for those that like the opportunity to see how long they can last in a punishing environment, and Endnight Games' latest offering is no exception.
So popular has the sequel been, in fact, that Sons of the Forest was the best-selling game on Steam, outshining the likes of Destiny 2 and even Valve's own Steam Deck. It goes to show just how much support the indie scene can get. However, all good things must sadly come to an end, and SotF has now been knocked from its top spot by the very thing it was beating.
Sons of the Forest Passes Impressive Sales Milestone After Only 24 Hours of Early Access
A quick look at the top sellers list over on Steam shows that Sons of the Forest is now at number two, which is still a great place to be, especially considering it's only been on the chart for a week. What's now taken over is the Steam Deck, the mobile PC device that was initially number one until Endnight's horror title came onto the scene. This could indicate that the initial hype is starting to die down, but it is interesting to note that SotF is still ahead of Destiny 2, as well as being the most played non-F2P game on Steam, which places it sixth overall.
