Carrey returns as the nefarious Doctor Robotnik, and it seems many have been enjoying the actor as the very popular villain (creators and fans alike). With the recent news that Carrey may actually be retiring, many are wondering what the future holds for Robotnik in the event of the actor's departure. Regardless of what happens, the producers are saying they don't want to see the actor go and in the event that Carrey does step away, they would never replace his role as the popular Doctor Robotnik. Speaking to IGN about this situation, Ascher said, «Jim Carrey is always a member of the Sonic family and he will always have a place in these movies and TV shows as long as he'd like to be around. We love Jim and he's so special, and what he does with Robotnik is so incredible, we would love him as long as he would like to be there with us.»
