Someone Already Beat Baldur's Gate 3 Honour Mode In Under An Hour
Patch 5 added a new difficulty to Baldur's Gate 3 called Honour Mode in which death is permanent and you can't save scum. To boot, it's harder than Tactician. It's not for the faint of heart, to say the least. But while we look at it with terror, one speedrunner has already gotten through it in under an hour.
It's a typical speedrun with the usual skips and exploits, but there's no room for failure. Death ends the run and you can't avoid bad dice rolls. That didn't stop Chronos, however, who managed to beat the new Honour mode in just 38 minutes and eight seconds.
Chronos also holds the world record for Baldur's Gate 3 Any% (All Acts), beating the game in 25 minutes and 18 seconds.
It got a bit dicey towards the end, as the Netherbrain was whittled down to just two hit points, sending Chronos into somewhat of a panic as they only had one party member available. Luckily, it took fire damage on its turn, so it had no chance to fight back and died immediately.
After the run ended, proud of their deserved accomplishment, Chronos booted up an old save to try out the swanky new dice. For context, if you beat Honour mode, you get a new Golden die that slots alongside Behir Blue, Dragonflame Red, and Scuffed Metal. "There we go, Shining Honour, look at that, it's so nice," Chronos said, cheering.
Of course, Honour mode isn't a walk in the park, but if you want to get the golden dice fast, speedrunning might be the way to go. Exploits and certain strategies (i.e. blow up everything) got Chronos through Act 1 in just over five minutes, made the Ketheric boss a cakewalk, and saw them beat the Netherbrain in just one turn (well, two if you count the fire damage).
