We've no doubt the first thing that'll cross a lot of people's minds when they see Trinity Fusion is its resemblance to Metroid. That's definitely what we thought about as this trailer got going, but while it's clearly wearing its inspiration on its sleeve, this interesting game is doing some cool stuff of its own.
Developed by Angry Mob Games, also known for Brawlout, Trinity Fusion is a 2D action game with rogue-lite elements. In it, you play as Maya, a woman psychically linked to her alternate selves across the multiverse. Her ultimate aim is to fuse the three worlds together in order to prevent a multidimensional collapse. Also, there are robots and mutants trying to kill you.
The three playable characters all have their own skillsets and weapons, and must traverse their own version of the world map, each with its own obstacles and challenges. With this trio of environments and characters, it looks as though combat and platforming will be fairly varied — in addition to projectile weapons, you'll also engage in slick-looking melee combat, and can also use status effects to wear down foes. As you progress, you'll unlock permanent upgrades as well as new starting locations in each of the three worlds.
It sounds like a neat idea, and looks pretty promising in the above trailer. The game is heading to PS5 and PS4 sometime in 2023, so hopefully it isn't too long before we can check this out ourselves. What do you think of Trinity Fusion? Tell us in the comments section below.
Having grown up alongside PlayStation, Stephen has developed an eclectic taste in video games and a wide knowledge of the medium, from small indie gems to the biggest AAA blockbusters. Ever hopeful that the Burnout series makes a miraculous return.
