The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is going to be released on May 25th, Daedalic Entertainment and NACON have announced today. This follows a number of delays that have plagued the game from its initial reveal in 2019. The original aim was to release the game in 2021. However, it was pushed their release target back to 2022, eventually settling on 1st September. Then in July 2022, a fresh delay was confirmed.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a fresh take on Gollum’s journey as it would have happened concurrently to the early chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s at this time that he sets out from the Misty Mountains, heading to the fringes of Mordor, through the Wood-elves realm of Mirkwood and beyond, all just for the chance to find his Precious once more. It’s a stealth action adventure, but one that is especially story-driven with players getting to choose which of the two conflicting personalities gets to shine through.
In our preview, Stefan wrote, “The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has an interesting juggling act to perform narratively, looking to slot into the established story of the fantasy epic, while also giving players freedom to imprint upon the compelling split personalities of the twisted and tortured character.”
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. A Switch version will be released later on this year.
