Video games have come a long way, and visuals along with it. From vector graphics to rasterisation, and from pixels to polygons, not to mention the jump from 2D to 3D, games have been backed by technological leaps through its history. But that doesn't always mean a game looks better.
For example, a PS3 game such as Resistance: Fall of Man might have been a clear graphical upgrade from a title such as Ratchet and Clank on the PS2, but it doesn't mean the unrelenting grayness of the shooter is more visually appealing than the imaginative worlds of Insomniac's platformer. This is exactly what gamers have been discussing in a recent thread.
