has spoken about his character’s marriage to a Skrull in the Disney+ series.
On Marvel’s website, Jackson delved into Nick Fury’s marriage and his apparent “softer side,” though he noted that “[being a husband] might be harder than that other life he has! That is not an easy person living in that house with him, apparently.
“It’s good that the audience knows that Fury has someone and he’s not alone in the fight or in the world, and it could be even better that they know that someone is a Skrull,” Jackson said, describing the relationship as, “My Skrullmance … Everybody loves something or someone, hopefully, or someone loves them that gives them an opportunity to let their defenses down, to open themselves up to the pain of loss or the joy of belonging, and she’s that person, even though it’s a tortured kind of romance. Nick Fury loves someone, and he does suffer loneliness when she’s not there.”
The Nick Fury-led Secret Invasion hails from head writer Kyle Bradstreet and director Ali Selim. The series features the return of MCU vets Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle, as they reprise their respective roles as Nick Fury, Talos, Maria Hill, Everett Ross, Rhodey. Joining them are Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, and more. The first three episodes of the series are now available to stream on Disney+.
