Samsung is launching a new range of high-endurance memory cards this week that are apparently nearly impossible to wear out.
The new Pro Endurance memory cards use Samsung's reinforced six-proof durability, which means they are protected against water, magnets, X-rays, and extreme temperatures, but Samsung also claims they are drop-proof and wear out-proof.
To prove those claims, Samsung submerged a Pro Endurance memory card in one meter of seawater for 72 hours, swiped it 10,000 times, dropped it 5 meters (16.4 feet), subjected it to a 15,000 Gauss magnet (same as a high-field MRI scanner), and a 100mgy X-ray (same as an airport X-ray machine). As for temperatures, these cards can operate in -25 to 85 degrees Celsius, or be stored at up to -40C.
Samsung didn't skimp on data transfer speeds to achieve this high level of durability. The Pro Endurance cards are rated at 100MB/s for reads and 40MB/s for writes. They also achieve U3 and V30 for video speed ratings, and Samsung says you can enjoy up to 16 years of continuous video recording time on the largest card.
Pro Endurance was designed with dash cams, body cams, and CCTV systems in mind, but there's nothing to stop them being used in other devices and for storing important data you really can't afford to lose due to a broken memory card.
Samsung is offering 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB versions of the Pro Endurance card, with prices ranging from $10.99 to $54.99. They should be available to purchase right now worldwide from a range of retailers.
