We wouldn't be at all surprised if you've completely forgotten about it, but Crysis 4 was announced in January 2022. Developer Crytek dropped a teaser for the project that barely showed anything, and we've heard nothing about the game since. It's assumed to be in heavy development at this stage.
It's interesting, then, that leaked footage from a different Crysis title appeared online last week. Said footage was reportedly from a very early build of a supposed battle royale-based project known as Crysis Next — which has never been officially revealed.
With that in mind, it's now being suggested that this so-called Crysis Next was cancelled so that Crytek could focus on the aforementioned Crysis 4. We don't know for sure how far along the battle royale spin-off was in terms of development, but there's no doubt that some fans will see this as a step in the right direction. Especially if Crysis 4 ends up being a return to form for the franchise.
And that's about it
Here's hoping that we get more information on Crysis 4 in the relatively near future. But until that happens, let us know if you're ready to suit up in the comments section below.
Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he's played 'em all. A little too much, some might say.
A GaaS title cancelled in favour of a single player game within the same series… what dystopian timeline have I found myself in now?!?!
