Ron Perlman’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them character is a gangster goblin named Gnarlak – here’s his role in the movie explained. From mandrakes and house-elves to hippogriffs and selkies, the Harry Potter movies are full of weird and wonderful creatures and the franchise’s prequel spinoff Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is no different. In fact, much of the movie follows wizard and magizoologist Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) frantic search for a suitcase full of magical creatures (the titular “fantastic beasts”) that he’s inadvertently let loose on the streets of 1920s New York City.
With the help of his newfound friends – No-Maj baker Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), a former Auror – Newt manages to wrangle up most of his fantastic beasts, including a niffler trying to rob a jewelry store and a giant erumpent wreaking havoc in Central Park Zoo. Eventually, just one escapee remains, which is a particularly elusive beast known as a demiguise that can make itself invisible. At Tina’s suggestion, the trio head to a seedy speakeasy for wizards called The Blind Pig that’s owned by another weird and wonderful creature – Ron Perlman’s Fantastic Beasts character Gnarlak.
