The latest image from Rob Zombie’s upcoming adaptation of The Munsters reveals Lily’s werewolf brother, Lester. Despite only having a two year run from 1964-1966, NBC’s classic sitcom had a wealth of characters that weren’t necessarily well-known among viewers. With source material derived from Hollywood’s beloved cache of monster movie villains, The Munsters had a built-in backstory that easily stayed true to familiar monster lore.
What made The Munsters especially unique, then, was that it took characters that audiences thought they knew and gave them a more human side. Suddenly the idea of Frankenstein, vampires and other bizarre creatures living in suburban California instead of terrorising unsuspecting victims became the norm. Had The Munsters survived longer than it did, perhaps there would’ve been an opportunity to really expand the monster universe that the series was based in. As it stands, several films were adapted from The Munsters’ IP, though only one of those films – 1966’s Munster, Go Home!,actually found its way to theatres. For fans of the franchise, then, Zombie's impending big screen adaptation has been a long time coming. It’s also the perfect opportunity to flesh out some of the IP’s lesser known characters.

To date Zombie has been very accommodating to fans who want to keep a close eye on everything that’s happening with The Munsters. The latest glimpse into the film’s production – which is currently taking place in Hungary – brings a lesser known character into the mix.
