Rob Zombie, who is working on a Munsters reboot, pays tribute to former Grandpa Munster star Robert Morse in an Instagram post. The actor, who passed at the age of 90, featured as Grandpa in the 1995 picture Here Come the Munsters, starring alongside Edward Herrmann, Christine Taylor, Veronica Hamel, and Mathew Botuchis. Directed by Robert Ginty, the film told the story of the titular Munster family, who settled in the US after fleeing persecution in Transylvania.
Based on the original 1960s sitcom The Munsters, Zombie’s upcoming comedy-horror remake will see Daniel Roebuck (Lost) take on the mantle of Grandpa. The Dracula-esque character was first depicted by Al Lewis in the television series, as well as the subsequent film spinoff, Munster, Go Home! Morse took on the role in 1995. Beginning his career back in the 1950s, Morse was arguably best known for his depiction of J. Pierrepont Finch in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, for which he received a Tony Award in 1962. More recently, Morse gained recognition for his role as Bertram Cooper in the AMC period drama Mad Men, gaining five Primetime Emmy nominations over the course of seven seasons.
