During the events of Skyrim, players face a dragon invasion that unsurprisingly focuses on the province of Skyrim; however, many players might not know there are dragons throughout all of Tamriel. Throughout their time in Skyrim, players will come across many different dragons, and all of them serve the main antagonist of the game Alduin. Alduin, also known as the World Eater, is determined to bring about the apocalypse and is resurrecting his fellow dragons in Skyrim to do so.
Dragons have been a part of the Elder Scrolls and Tamriel's timeline from the very beginning and are immortal creatures, with only a Dragonborn truly able to kill them. They were once rulers of all of Nirn through their Dragon Cult, although they are long gone by the time of Skyrim. As he attempts to regain his empire, Alduin has dragons converging on Skyrim and the player.

While having the dragons flocking to Skyrim certainly helps the Dragonborn collect dragon souls for their Shouts, it does make players wonder if the ret of Tamriel is facing a similar threat. During the quest «Diplomatic Immunity,» the player can break into the Thalmor Embassy and discover what they know about the dragon invasion. It seems very little, and their own investigation appears to focus on Skyrim. However, diving deep into Elder Scrolls lore gives a very different answer.
