Respawn Entertainment is putting together an incubation team for a new multiplayer FPS, and since this is Respawn, everyone is already hopping on the Titanfall 3 train.
As reported by eXputer, the job listing is up on LinkedIn right now and mentions work on a "great game" which isn't named at all in the ad. Since it's an FPS, it's easy to see why people are assuming that it's Titanfall 3, but you might want to slow down on those expectations.
Jeff Grubb claimed earlier this year that Respawn is working on a new "Titanfall game" but that it's not Titanfall 3 (thanks, Eurogamer). It's simply set in the same universe, so it might even be an Apex Legends spin-off--AKA a single-player spin-off of a multiplayer spin-off of a single-player game.
Respawn has worked on a couple of Star Wars games now with the Jedi series, but they're third-person soulslikes with a splash of Uncharted, a huge shift from what the developer is known for.
It was however developing an FPS in the Star Wars universe up until earlier this year, returning to its shooter roots, but EA cancelled it in February as part of its mass layoffs.
EA also announced earlier this year that it wants to move away from licensed IP and use more of its in-house library.
One of the reasons given for Respawn not working on Titanfall 3 was because it was developing "too many other games", so with Jedi Survivor released and the Star Wars FPS cancelled, a new title set in the Titanfall universe certainly makes sense.
So, while we might not be getting Titanfall 3, we could be getting a spin-off that returns to the more traditional FPS style of earlier games as opposed to Apex Legends' battle royale. Or it could be completely unrelated. We'll have to wait and see.
Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall is a first-person shooter in which you control both human pilots and their colossal mechs in a battle between factions. It features both single-player and multiplayer modes, which are online-only.
