The Resident Evil 4 remake's Mercenaries mode will feature at least one more playable character compared to the original game, according to a newly emerged leak. This development arrives mere days after Capcom announced that the Mercenaries add-on will launch as the first piece of free DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake come early April.
The Japanese developer previously confirmed the return of this fan-favorite Resident Evil 4 mode in the run-up to the remake's release, but revealed no information about any potential differences between its new implementation and the original experience. The Mercenaries mode was one of several extras unlocked after beating the Resident Evil 4 campaign and was part of all future ports of the game. It mostly reused assets from the main story in order to compose new set pieces that tasked players with defeating as many enemies as possible within a set time limit in exchange for points.

It would appear that the Resident Evil 4 remake's Mercenaries mode will be fairly close to the arcade experience of the original, with one notable difference being that its list of playable characters will now include Luis, according to a new data-mining effort from one avid fan. For context, the 2005 game's Mercenaries roster consisted of Leon S. Kennedy, his long-time ally Ada Wong, Jack Krauser, Hunk, and Albert Wesker. All of them will be making a return in the remake's take on this mode, as indicated by the fact that their Mercenaries costumes have recently been data-mined by RE Wiki Discord server user Gosetsu.
