Resident Evil 7 was good and Resident Evil Village was even better, but Resident Evil 4 is still the best RE game ever made. That's why Capcom chose RE4 to turn into a VR game and why it's been updated, ported, and remastered half a dozen times.
The latest version, Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition, was released for PC in 2014 and provides the usual assortment of graphical upgrades and support for modern hardware. That's the version you can get on Steam if you were to buy it right now. And I truly recommend you do because that version is about to get a whole lot better.

While Capcom did a decent job improving RE4 in Ultimate HD Edition, there were still things that couldn't be improved without significant effort. That's why textures can look washed out and why certain objects are still flat sprites.
Resident Evil 4 HD Project is a new mod coming from a group of dedicated RE4 fans that promises to be a true remaster. The mod will bring all-new texture assets that are up to 16x higher resolution than the original thanks to real-life photos taken in Spain and Wales--exactly how Capcom created the originals. The mod will also improve texture mapping and fix 3D modeling issues that weren't apparent in the original game because of its far-lower resolution.
Inventory, menus, and other UI elements also get enhanced resolutions, and those flat objects are being replaced with full 3D models. Throw in some enhanced lighting effects, visual effects, and an improved camera for controlling Amy, and you get the definitive version of Resident Evil 4 nearly two decades after the initial release.
