Last week Capcom released the Resident Evil 4 “Chainsaw Demo,” which lets players on take the remake’s new version of the infamous opening battle against crazed hordes of “Ganado” villagers. While the demo technically doesn’t have a time limit, the battle plays out just like it did in the original game – if you can survive for a certain amount of time, a church bell rings and the game moves on (or the demo resets). You can play the demo as many times as you want, but there’s always this limitation. You can only explore the village for a few minutes at a time before you have to reset.
Well, that isn’t the case if you download the new “Church Bell No More” mod, which removes the timer set on the village battle, allowing you to slaughter Ganados for as long as you want, explore every nook and cranny of the area, ect. The mod also lets you customize your village experience a bit, deciding what types of enemies will spawn, disabling certain events, and whether you want to play in “Mad Chainsaw” mode (a particularly difficult challenge usually randomly unlocked in the unmodded demo).
Of course, Church Bell No More is just one of the many mods that have already been created for the Resident Evil 4 demo (and the many, many more that will accompany the full game). For instance, there is already a VR mod for the demo, and, uh… one that turns Leon’s knife into a banana? Sure, why not.
