HTC used to be a dominant name in the world of smartphone in the last decade, giving Samsung phones an inferiority complex, and setting new industry trends. Sadly, the company taking interest in phones by 2018 and has been fairly absent from the global scene. Good news though if you were a fan of HTC – it is coming back with a bang. Based on a new rumour, HTC is planning launch a new flagship smartphone in April this year, and it could challenge Apple’s future plans in a big way.
Based on a report from DigiTimes, HTC is making a comeback to the flagship smartphone space in April. HTC Vive Asia-Pacific GM Charles Huang at the HTC event of MWC 2022 said that the HTC’s new flagship would focus on a deep integration with the company’s Viveverse – an open source platform that focuses on AR and VR. No idea on the basic specifications or the phone’s availability across the world yet, and HTC has kept mum on the subject.
HTC has been absent from the flagship smartphone space for a long time and it remains to be seen how its first product under the brand’s comeback will come out. The last high-end phone the company made was the HTC U12+ that took on the Galaxy S9 and Pixel 3.
Note that HTC has continued making smartphones in all these years. The company has largely been selling affordable phones with entry-level specifications and basic designs. Back in its heydays, HTC used to rule the smartphone world with its designs, user experiences, cameras, and more. It was the HTC One that made its high-end Android flagships more desirable.
