Sydney Bernice Sweeney is an incredibly popular American actress best known for her performances in TV series like The White Lotus and Euphoria and films like Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Madame Web, and Anyone But You. She also recently sparked some intense (relatively speaking) speculation as to which The Simpsons racer she might have been referring to in a Madame Web-related interview with IGN.
Doing the sort of journalism for which awards are given, IGN continued to pull at this essential thread after Sweeney mentioned she grew up with a brother who played a lot of games. When asked which was her favourite, she said, «We would play The Simpsons game,» and mimed driving. As GameSpot sagely noted, given Sweeney's age (26), 2001's Road Rage and spiritual successor Hit & Run seem like the most likely contenders.
IGN managed to catch up with Sweeney again, this time under the auspices of discussing the actress's upcoming horror film, Immaculate. Still, we suspect the real reason was to get to the bottom of this The Simpsons situation, and get to the bottom of it they did: «I want to say it was the racing game.»
With the assistance of IGN employee Jeffrey Vega, it was ultimately determined that the game in question was, indeed, Road Rage. And while both The Simpsons games were available on PS2, The Sweeney's, it seems, preferred another platform: «Road Rage! Because it was old, it was on the Xbox. I always liked Homer.»
There you have it — the answer to a question that has kept us up for days on end, finally answered. Do you have a preference between The Simpsons: Road Rage and Hit & Run? What do you think of Sweeney's decision to play as Homer? Let us know in the comments section below.
