A potential Metaphor: ReFantazio release date has leaked online, with a recently surfaced retailer listing suggesting the game could hit the market on October 12. However, some circumstantial evidence raises the possibility of the upcoming fantasy RPG from Persona developer Atlus releasing a day earlier.
The Sega-owned studio announced Metaphor: ReFantazio in June 2023, debuting its reveal trailer during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase. The first new Atlus IP in over a decade was originally expected to reach PC and consoles in spring 2024, but Atlus and Sega later narrowed down its release window to fall.
And while the game is still without an official release date, one of its surprisingly detailed online listings may have just revealed one prematurely. As first spotted by Atlus leaker Midori, the Metaphor: ReFantazio page that recently went live on the Hong Kong version of the Microsoft Store listed the game as an October 12 release. Placeholder dates are a common practice in e-commerce, but with this being an oddly specific pick for such a stand-in, there is a non-zero possibility of Metaphor: ReFantazio actually launching on that date, especially given its previously confirmed fall release window.
Atlus game release dates leaked via the Hong Kong version of the Microsoft Store have occasionally been off by a day. E.g., the PC and Xbox port of Persona 5 Royal was previously listed as an October 20 release but ended up debuting on October 21, 2022. While there's no way to conclusively tell whether that's also the case this time around, it is a possibility, as an October 12 launch for Metaphor: ReFantazio would break with the years-long tradition of major Atlus fall releases happening on either a Thursday or Friday. Namely, October 12 falls on a Saturday, suggesting the game could actually come out on the 11th.
