Official details have finally been revealed for Pokémon GO's upcoming Water Festival, confirming new pocket monsters Dewpider, Araquanid and Tapu Fini, along with new event challenges. Niantic is bringing back the in-game event for 2022, kicking it off on May 12 at 10:00 am and letting it run all the way until May 20 at 8:00 pm.
This May is packed with many Pokémon GO events as the augmented reality title is in the midst of the final month of its current Season of Alola. Besides the overarching season, however, the longest-running event that will occur will be the Water Festival that commences this week. It has been a few years since Niantic last used this in-game event and, in celebration of its return, the developer is packing the duration of the festival with many different activities, encounters, and challenges for Pokémon GOplayers.

Confirmed on the official Pokémon GO Live website, 2022's Water Festival will see the debut of Lapras wearing a scarf, Dewpider, and Araquanid. Certain Water-Type pocket monsters will also appear more frequently in the wild, and Legendary Pokémon Tapu Fini will be appearing in Raids during the event. The Water Festival will also add new field research tasks to Pokémon GO, including a special research story involving Poni Island, as well as other unique features and bonuses that are further detailed in the official announcement.
It will be a little less than three years since the last time Pokémon GO hosted its Water Festival event, and Niantic appears to have adjusted some of the mechanics for this revival. Previous Water Festival events were all at different lengths and ran at different times of the year.
