James Gunn will both write and direct all episodes of Peacemaker season 2. Season 1 of HBO Max’s smash DC superhero series just wrapped up with a finale that can only be described as shocking and explosive.
“Shocking” and “explosive” indeed are words that could be used to describe Peacemaker right from the beginning of season 1, along with words like “hilarious” and “unbelievably raunchy.” Most of that raunchy hilarity of course was due to creator Gunn, who penned all eight season 1 episodes and directed five, including the aforementioned season 1 finale. Along with his 2021 feature film The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker proved that Gunn may be the perfect creative force to unleash on DC’s quirkier characters, given his talent for crafting twisty and action-packed stories about misfit oddballs.

After season 1 delivered the goods beyond all expectations, Peacemaker will unsurprisingly get a second season at HBO Max. And Warner Media has revealed that Gunn himself will take on an even bigger role in season 2, not only writing all the episodes but also directing each of them. The actual episode count for season 2 has however not yet been revealed.
In a statement Gunn said, “Creating Peacemaker has been one of the true highlights of my life, both professionally and otherwise, with John Cena and the incredible creative team around me, as well as our partners at HBO Max." He added, “To have something we all love so much be loved by the audience in turn has been a wonderful experience. I can’t wait for folks to see where Team Peacemaker goes in Season Two!”
