Space Force season 3 could end with Erin Naird (Diana Silvers) saving the world from getting destroyed by a giant asteroid. Indeed, Erin has come a long way from being a teenage burnout who blames all of her problems on her parents, General Mark Naird (Steve Carrell) and Maggie Naird (Lisa Kudrow), who is in prison for a yet-unknown reason. The growth that Erin has shown in Space Force season 2 could be setting up the character to become the hero in the third season.
Space Force season 2 ended on a bittersweet note, not just for Erin and Space Force, but for the entire planet. After successfully dealing with Russian hackers and preventing the loss of the satellite Blue Oyster Cult 181-X, Space Force was included into the administration's American Strategic Defense Plan, which gives the crew exclusive access to the Hawaii telescope. Unfortunately, the first thing that Dr. Chan Kaifang (Jimmy O. Yang) spots with the Hawaii telescope is an asteroid that seems to be huge enough to destroy all life on Earth – and it's headed our way fast. This prompts the Space Force crew to sing “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys a capella, a weirdly hilarious finale that lays the groundwork for the crew to tackle its largest challenge yet.

Space Force season 3 will determine whether or not the crew will be up to the challenge, and the evidence suggests that Erin will be instrumental to their efforts. Erin is certainly not perfect, but she has shown herself to be capable of making the right decisions and even taking calculated risks.
