The makers of the highly anticipated STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl have asked fans to support defenders in Ukraine and to donate money if they can.
The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine is the stuff of nightmares, with social media ensuring that the horrors of war – and purposeful misinformation – are instantly available to everyone, everywhere.
However, unless you know someone personally involved it can still seem a distinct conflict, but video game developer GSC Game World, which is well known for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, is based in Ukraine and has tweeted out its support for the country’s armed forces.
‘As of today, the Russian Federation has officially declared war on Ukraine. Our country woke up with the sounds of explosions and weapons fire, but is ready to defend its freedom and independence, for it remains strong and ready for anything. The future is unknown, but we hope for the best, are ever sure of our armed forces and our belief in Ukraine’, reads a message from the developer’s official Twitter channel.
No specific mention is made of how staff members are coping with the emergency but there is no indication that any of them have left the country.
Instead, the tweets encourage fans to send monetary aid, with the lengthy number in both tweets relating to a special aid account organised by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
‘We thus address all of our colleagues in the gaming industry’, reads one tweet. ‘Players, bloggers or anyone who sees this post in their newsfeed: share this, do not stand aside and help those in need.’
The responses to the tweet are almost universally positive, although there are a few jokes from fans about how the repeatedly delayed game may now suffer yet another setback.
