Ukrainian STALKER 2 developer puts game on hold until ‘after the victory’
STALKER 2 is now unlikely to be out this year, as developer GSC Game World focus on helping their ’employees and their families to survive’.
From the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister asking Sony and Microsoft to block Russian accounts to numerous publishers and developers donating to charities, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has already had a major influence on the video games industry.
That’s especially true because there are many prominent games companies based in Ukraine, including Ubisoft Kyiv, Crytek Kiev, Gameloft Kharkov and Lviv, and a number of independent developers including Metro Exodus creator 4A Games, Sherlock Holmes developer Frogwares and… GSC Game World.
Based in Kyiv, GSC Game World has already urged fans to support Ukrainian defenders but have now posted a video on YouTube confirming that they have paused development on STALKER 2: Heart Of Chernobyl.

The video above begins with the developers remembering their work on the game from the previous week, where they were editing recently filmed motion capture footage. As the video puts it though, ‘The previous week was ages ago.’
The footage then switches to various harrowing images of Ukrainian buildings, all seemingly civilian, being attacked by Russian missiles.
The video was created to reassure fans that were worried about the team, and annouces that game development has ‘shifted to the sidelines’ but that work will continue ‘after the victory’.
The developer states that they are now instead ‘striving to help out employees and their families to survive’.
