Ditto has been confirmed by fans in timezones ahead of North America as the featured Pokémon GO species for the game's April Fool's Day 2022 event. Ditto being featured is an exciting opportunity to catch the sneaky, slippery Pokémon to complete Field Research tasks. Additionally, Ditto's ability, Transform, allows it to remain hidden from players until after a catch when it reveals itself as a fun surprise.

The April Fool's event for 2022 was teased by Pokémon GO's April content update, where upcoming raids, gameplay changes, and Community Day events were outlined for players. Pokémon GO is also in the middle of its "Seasons of Alola" event, which has introduced numerous Pokémon species from generation Seven's Sun and Moon, as well as offering fans research opportunities perfect for long walks in the warming weather. While many are excited about the smaller April events, details for options like the April Fool's 2022 event weren't outlined in the update, with planned pranks kept secret throughout the end of March.
