Four years after it was announced, Paramount+ just dropped the animated Ark series without warning, and the cast is stacked. It features Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Russell Crowe, Jeffrey Wright, Karl Urban, Zahn McClarnon, Devery Jacobs, Elliot Page, and Alan Tudyk.
Vin Diesel is starring in the upcoming Ark 2, so the animated series will likely tie directly into the sequel's story. He's also an executive producer on the show and is even making a movie based on Survival Evolved.
Six episodes are available to stream right now, with more to come. Ark 2 meanwhile is expected to launch later this year, though no concrete date has been given.
As reported by Variety, the story follows Helena Walker (Madeleine Madden) who has been resurrected on a primaeval island filled with dinosaurs. True to the game the show is based on, she has to survive this perilous prehistoric land as she uncovers the origin of the world she finds herself in.
Ark: Survival Evolved's co-creative directors Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak serve as executive producers, while Jay Oliva serves as showrunner and Kendall Deacon Davis as lead writer.
"Ark: The Animated Series' story is an adaptation rather than a 1:1 translation of the game notes," Stieglitz tweeted. "The plot arc is designed to hit essential points, all the way to the very end. Though, a particular character arc has been reversed in certain ways.
You can get a month of Paramount+ with ads for $5.99 or without ads for $11.99.
"Been a wonderful journey bringing Ark to TV, thank you to all Ark fans both old and new for waiting so long. I hope you enjoy these first steps into this story of Helena Walker. Part 2 hits the BIG notes you'll want to see in [the] Ark show and stay tuned to Part 1's end for a small preview."
Ark: Survival Evolved sees players attempt to survive and thrive in the world of Ark. It is populated by prehistoric creatures that both prove a threat to the player and can also be tamed.
