finally unveiled players' first look at the long-awaited Arena mode that will allow Trainers to battle it out by sending their team of Pals into the fray. While the game mode had already been announced in Pocket Pair's roadmap for the open-world survival game, the studio parted the curtain on how it'll function, spotlighting a system that, as can be expected, looks very similar to. Given that combat already plays a major role in 's core gameplay loop, the decision to add in an Arena mode simply feels like an extension of the already-existing mechanics.
Revealed as a part of the recent Triple-i Initiative Showcase and later posted to X (formerly Twitter), the brief teaser trailer spotlights a single Arena battle as two players go head-to-head alongside a team of three pre-selected Pals.
While the footage itself doesn't give much away, it does provide an inkling of what the community can expect as the mode looks especially frantic as Trainers zip around a Coliseum-like location, shooting at the opposing Pals with their preferred firearms. 's Arena mode is expected to launch in summer 2024.
Details on 's Arena are still scarce but based on the teaser trailer, the PvP mode is strikingly similar to the system seen in, drawing many expected comparisons. Much like Game Freak's RPGs, building a team that maximizes type synergy and counters the opponent's squad will no doubt be a vital component in claiming victory. Despite this similarity, there are undoubtedly some key differences in how the Arena will work in relation to 's player-versus-player mode.
Easily the biggest difference is the fact that Trainers themselves are involved in the matches, evidenced by both players wading into the fray with a crossbow and assault rifle. 's PvP mode only ever sees the titular critters battling one another as players take a back seat and simply order their units to perform specific actions.
