Warning! Spoilers ahead for Outlander season 6 and beyond!
A small change in the Outlanderseason 6 finale may lead to a major change in Starz’s Outlander season 7. Adapted from the books by Diana Gabaldon, the Starz series has been bringing to screen Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes, however, due to covid-restrictions on filming during the pandemic, Outlander season 6 was shortened to eight episodes with the final chapters from the source material now being pushed to season 7. Ending with Claire in jail awaiting trial for Malva’s murder, a small change was made in the series that may reveal massive upcoming changes.
Because of the truncating of Outlander season 6, the season finale has several storylines that end in major cliffhangers. Along with Bree and Roger’s impending journey back to the future, Claire’s murder trial looms on the horizon as well. The Outlander season 6 finale saw Claire and Jamie enter into a stand-off with Richard Brown and his safety committee before hesitantly surrendering and then being forcibly separated en route to Claire’s trial. And while the Outlander season 6 ending followed the plot of the books rather closely, the location of Claire’s trial was altered.

While Claire is taken to New Bern for trial in Gabaldon’s A Breath of Snow and Ashes, she is taken to Wilmington in theStarz Outlander series. This change may have been merely a reflection of the already complicated pandemic-era filming that Outlander cited as reason enough to shorten their season.
