For builders who enjoy having a walkway to their front door, this leaves a gap of grass between the sidewalk and the player's home. Additionally, it also makes it so any fencing that one wants to build won't go up right at the perimeter of the property, instead leaving an undesired gap between the housing lot and the sidewalk. Although it may seem like a tiny detail that's not that big of a deal, the consistency in which Maxis makes lots just slightly undersized is pretty infuriating.
