Newly released hero shooter Concord has shifted just 25,000 copies since its release last week.
That's according to IGN, citing figures from Simon Carless' GameDiscover.co newsletter, which reports that the title has sold around 10,000 units on Steam and another 15,000 copies on PlayStation platforms.
At the time of writing, there are just 53 players on Steam, per data from SteamDB, and Concord peaked at a whopping 697 simultaneous users since its release. Concord rolled out on August 23rd.
As for why Concord is not selling, there's the small matter of a great deal of competition in the market. There is no shortage of team shooters and many of them – such as Overwatch 2 – are free-to-play.
“A tight-knit group of players might be willing to take a chance on a new game for free, but paying $40 is a big ask in today’s macroeconomic climate,” Rhys Elliott from Midia Research said.
“Launching Concord as a premium game limited its audience numbers and user acquisition. The more people who play a game, the more appealing it is. Network effects are crucial for building a healthy, engaged ecosystem.
“Concord should have launched free-to-play – or at least as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription – to have a fighting chance in its overcrowded genre. It is not too late for this to happen, of course, but the damage might have already been done. First impressions matter.”
