An HBO insider recently revealed that the network rejected a Game of Thrones spin-off focused on the Seven Gods of Westeros due to it being too weird. The influential HBO fantasy series aired for 8 seasons from 2011 to 2019. Now, a prequel series titled House of the Dragon is set to release in August 2022.
George R.R. Martin's medieval Europe-inspired world of Game of Thrones is a realm filled with many complexities and mysteries beyond the power struggles of man. From fearsome dragons that can lay waste to armies and cities, the terrifying undead forces of the White Walkers beyond the Northern Walls led by the centuries-old Night King (Richard Brake, Vladimír Furdík), and powerful figures like Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and the Three-Eyed-Raven (Max von Sydow) who are capable of performing many incredible feats with mysticism, the world of Westeros is no stranger to the supernatural. However, while House of the Dragon will explore the Targaryens and their dragons, it has recently been revealed that one possible story surrounding Westeros' mythology was rejected by HBO.

In an article released by THR exploring House of the Dragon's development, it was revealed that while HBO content chief Casey Bloys was open to any new series exploring the mythos of Game of Thrones, one idea was rejected for being too weird for the network.
