Rod Roddenberry, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's son, says Star Trek: Strange New Worlds would make his father proud. The latest entry in the popular, multi-generational, science-fiction franchise is set five years before Captain James T. Kirk takes command of the Federation's flagship, the USS Enterprise. The show follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew as they go on their five-year mission to explore undiscovered corners of the galaxy.
Strange New Worlds is the sixth show introduced following CBS' rebranding of the franchise by Alex Kurtzman following the release Star Trek: Discovery in 2017. Although originally a spinoff of the serialized Discovery, Strange New Worlds was designed in a more episodic structure, similar to the older Star Trek television series. This return to form, along with its stellar writing and excellent performances, helped make Strange New Worlds the highest-rated Star Trek entry on Rotten Tomatoes to date.
