Rarely, you’ll encounter monsters that cause a unique status effect in Octopath Traveler 2 — petrification. If you’re turned to stone, you might as well be dead. Unlike other status effects, stone doesn’t eventually go away. The only way to cure petrification is with specific items, special magic, or a single accessory. Petrification is a rare status and finding ways to cure it can be even rarer. The monster at the end of the Sinking Ruins caused Petrification, and this status effect can stop even the most overpowered party. Petrification is a secret additional status effect. The tutorials explaining status effects won’t mention petrification, and your party will never learn methods to petrify enemies. Petrification, when used on your party, permanently turns that character into stone. While petrified, they cannot take damage or act. They’re essentially frozen for the entire battle. Petrification will go away after a battle is complete, but if you want to take on certain late-game optional bosses, you’ll need to learn how to cure Petrification.
