Microsoft is rolling out the latest firmware update for Xbox consoles.
The October update’s main features include keyboard mapping for controllers, capture importing in Clipchamp and diagnostic data sharing preferences.
The new keyboard mapping feature will le players map controller buttons for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and the Xbox Adaptive Controller to a keyboard.
Players can use the Xbox Accessories app to map their buttons. “For instance,” Xbox principal group manager Jonathan Hildebrandt said on theXbox Wire blog, “Sea of Thieves can take keyboard input for something like quick select of a tool or weapon, while using controller for most other actions.”
“Keyboard remapping has been a requested feature in the PC gaming and accessibility communities,” he added. “It helps expand controller input capabilities in games that have many commands, have limited remapping capabilities, or do not support controllers.”
Another new feature in the October update is the ability to import game captures to Windows 11’s built-in video editor Clipchamp.
In the ‘import media’ section of Clipchamps, players will now find an ‘Xbox’ tab, which lets them browse and import any videos they’ve saved on their Xbox cloud storage.
“Once imported, you’re ready to create videos of your epic gaming moments by trimming, cropping, adding text, transitions, and other effects,” Hildebrandt says. “Afterward, you can easily share these videos with your friends, family, and followers.”
Finally, the update also updates users’ optional diagnostic data settings to be account-based, meaning players can set their preferences on one device and this will be applied across all other devices, instead of having to set it on every device.
