Expeditions have become an integral part of No Man's Sky's lifecycle over the last year. The events, which see you traveling from a fixed point in thegalaxy map to complete objectives across space, are as fun as they are rewarding.

The third expedition, named Cartographers, is no exception to this rule. Much like its counterparts, the event is built around putting you in a specific set of circumstances where you must complete phases of tasks to progress. Rewards and items are handed out for each accomplished task, but your starting resources are restricted, as well as blueprints.
Cartographers has you starting out on the toxic planet of Gisto Major, where you will spend the majority of your time. You'll start with a crashed starship that requires repairs, much like the beginning of the main game. Only now you will need advanced materials to repair it and explore the stars.
The ship is randomly selected from a list of exotics with 15+4 slots available and a random weapon. To make things slightly easier, you're equipped with various additional blueprints on top of the default ones.
Your equipment is also slightly different. Your starting gear is a random C-class rifle multi-tool with 19 slots and an Analysis Visor pre-installed. Your exosuit is also slightly upgraded, with two toxic protection upgrades and X-Class upgrades for your hazard protection system equipped from the get-go.
Each phase consists of several milestones which outline your objectives. Every milestone completed will come with rewards, including patches, items, and other handy technological upgrades.
