A stunning cosplay of Nightwing reveals a truth about Dick Grayson's alter ego; a domino mask just isn't enough to protect the man's private life. Nightwing may have entrusted the small face mask to safeguard his secret identity since his days as Robin, but one cosplayer showed the pitfalls of such a disguise when it's translated to real life.
Dick Grayson got his superhero start as Batman's original sidekick in Detective Comics #38. For over four decades, he had nothing to protect his identity as Bruce Wayne's ward but a garishly bright costume and a mask that covered up a third of his face. When Grayson moved on to forge his own path as a hero, he finally had the chance to be in charge of his own costume, but curiously kept the domino mask with his new self-made garb. The choice might not have been the smartest decision, as a recent cosplay shows the reality of how little protection such a mask offers.

In a series of tweets, cosplayer DynamiteWebber posted images of himself dressed as Nightwing. Decked out in Dick Grayson's traditional blue and black outfit, DynamiteWebber goes the extra mile such as wielding Grayson's Escrima Sticks and wearing protective shoulder pads, gauntlets and kneepads into the suit, creating a very battle-ready looking outfit. Replies were very receptive to the care and accuracy DynamiteWebber put into his outfit, with current Nightwing writer Tom Taylor retweeting the cosplay. Even the mask DynamiteWebber credits to Tiger Stone FX looks as though it was plucked right off of the page. However, the up, close, and personal shots force Nightwing fans to face a hard truth about the character's costume choices.
happy new year
