There are only three days left before the PC early access debut of Nightingale, the first game released by Canadian developer Inflexion Games.
To tide our readers until Tuesday the 20th, we've just published an exclusive interview with Inflexion founder and CEO Aaryn Flynn, a former BioWare veteran and General Manager. As part of our chat, we asked him whether he was worried about launching a game in the same genre (survival crafting) that already saw big hits last month. You can find the reply below.
Between the huge success of Palworld and the recent launch of Enshrouded, are you more worried that survival is at saturation or excited that the popularity of the genre is so high?
I think it’s an exciting opportunity. What we’re seeing right now is not a proliferation of the same ideas being recycled ad nauseam but these very distinct and unique perspectives of the genre being developed by incredibly talented teams. Palworld has its own take on the genre and Enshrouded, too, and we’ve seen both be hugely successful with their vision for what the genre can bring that’s interesting and differentiated to players. Our hope is that players see our perspective and what’s unique about our approach, particularly with our Realm Card system and expansive design possibilities, as we embrace the possibilities that the genre has to offer in our own gaslampian, Nightingale way. We’ve been saying internally that “The survival genre is having a moment”, and that’s great for everyone.
Nightingale will be available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, priced at $29.99, €28.99, or £24.99. Flynn also said the team is still evaluating how to handle the game's console release; usually, most early access games wait until version 1.0, although he expressed interest in the Xbox Game Preview program.
